Product Review: Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water

Hi loves! As you can see by the title, I am reviewing Smashbox Cosmetic’s Photo Finish Primer Water. This product ranges from $16.00 for a 1.0 oz bottle, to $32.00 for a 3.9 oz bottle. This product can be purchased at your local Sephora, Ulta and Shoppers Drugmart (provided they carry Smashbox products). To begin with pros, I find this product to be very hydrating and refreshing on the skin as the electrolytes in the primer awaken your skin while adding back moisture. This primer is great for all skin types as it is oil free, but also creates a level of hydration and moisture that isn’t overbearing. I enjoy using this primer after I prep the skin with moisturizer, which creates a dewy, sheer canvas for my face. My skin type is combination to oily which makes it difficult to find products to keep me matte in my t-zone throughout the day; however, this primer creates an even texture on my skin and really locks in moisture to help the foundation glide on. As for smell, which tends to be an issue for many people, I find that there is a slight fragrance; however, it is very light and refreshing and not overpowering like other fragranced products. Although this product makes a great primer, for cons, I don’t find this to work well as a setting spray. I know there is a lot of controversy as to if this works as both a priming and setting spray, but in my opinion, I don’t find that it has the same longevity as my other go-to sprays (Urban Decay De-Slick, Mac Fix +, Model in a Bottle setting spray). This primer is very sheer and light which for me doesn’t affect the longevity of my make up as I am oily and need a heavier form of setting product. I do believe that this would work amazingly on those with dry skin looking for a dewy setting spray. I would also compare this product to Mac Fix + as they both contain electrolytes in order to create a dewy and hydrating finish. I used this spray on a client with dry skin to prep and finish the face and the makeup held up beautifully. So to wrap things up, I would rate this product as an 8/10. I would definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a hydrating primer for all skin types! Thank you for taking the time to read this review, let me know in the comments your thoughts and opinions on this primer, I would love to hear them!

Talk to you soon! Xx
