Hello loves! Is it just me or has this year just flown by? I cannot believe May is already over. Since June has quickly arrived, today I’m going to be telling you guys all about my top favourite beauty products from the month of May!
1. Too Faced “The Little Black Book of Bronzers”
This limited edition book of bronzers was quite the steal for me! I had been eyeing this product for so long at Sephora and I finally decided to purchase it and I could not be happier that I did. This “book” contains 8 sample sized compact bronzers from the Too Faced collection, ranging from light to deep skin tones and matte to shimmery bronzers. I purchased this book at my local Sephora for $65.00 CAN. My initial urge to purchase this book was in order for it to be added to my freelance kit. Since it has such a diverse colour variety which ranges from cool to warm undertones, I found it to be the perfect addition to my kit since I can use it on any client. These bronzers are so blendable and don’t come off patchy or muddy looking at all, which I struggle to find in a bronzer. The pigmentation of these bronzers are amazing, so a little bit of product will go a long way. Apart from the actual product itself, I would recommend this book to any freelance artist since it is so compact and takes up very minimal space in the kit. This book makes it easy to travel with opposed to carrying 5-10 full sized compacts. In addition, this book is also a great investment if you tan a lot and are constantly going up and down a foundation shade. If you self-tan often or plan on vacationing and getting some colour, this is a great product for you since there is just a great variety!
If any of you have used Mac’s mineralized skin finishes, you know they are very luminous and pigmented. As you can tell by the name of the powder, “mineralized”, the powder is made with minerals in order to achieve the “glowing from within” look everyone strives for. I picked this up at the Mac store for I believe $45.00 CAN. I have been loving this powder to set my under eye concealer lately. When highlighting the face, I tend to go about two shades lighter than my foundation for my under eye highlight and this powder is the perfect shade for the job! The luminosity of the powder creates such a nice glow for the under eye and really brightens up the face as well as setting the concealer in place. The product itself is not cakey or chalky. It definitely has a light coverage which can be built to medium. When setting the under eye, you never want to go too heavy with the coverage because it can easily cake up and look powerdy. This finely milled powder is perfect for setting concealer as well as foundation and lasts all day without budging or creasing.
This foundation has been quite the hype lately in the beauty community. When I saw this at my local Shoppers Drug Mart, I saw the words “Pro-Matte” and was instantly drawn to it. Since I am oily, I tend to reach for matte foundations opposed to illuminating ones. This foundation runs for $24.00 CAN which is a little pricey compared to the average drugstore foundation. This foundation is my new go-to, I have been using it nonstop. It feels very light on the skin, which is surprising since it is medium to full coverage. Once applied, the foundation quickly dries and feels just like your skin! It is transfer resistant which is another great quality and I find that I only really need to set the areas where I get oily (my t-zone) and the rest of my face is fine for the day. The foundation reads that it is a 24 hour wear and I would have to agree. Although I have never actually worn it for 24 hours, I have worn it the entire day (12 hours) and have not had to blot or powder my face once! I wear shade “102, Shell Beige” in this foundation, which also comes in nine different shades ranging from cool, neutral to warm undertones, making the search for your perfect shade a lot easier. If you are combination to oily I highly recommend this foundation for you. Also, for those who are going to be outside a lot this summer and find yourselves getting oily or sweating, I would also suggest this foundation!
4. NYX HD concealer in “Yellow”
NYX’s HD concealers have become one of my favorite products! They are very inexpensive and the quality is amazing. The HD formula provides a thin consistency to avoid cakiness and does not crease or budge throughout the day. I recently purchased the colour “Yellow” and have been mixing it in with my regular under eye concealer to brighten it up and to bring that area of the face forward. When highlighting the face, using a yellow shade acts as a brightening technique in order to bring those areas forward to accentuate the contoured areas. This is why in many contour kits you may see a yellow, banana coloured shade which is meant for the under eye area and other areas which you highlight. I purchased this concealer at Ulta for $5.99 US. For the price, you cannot go wrong with this concealer! It is such a great quality and it comes in such a wide variety of colours.
I have been loving this primer for so many reasons! It is so hydrating and refreshing on the skin and once absorbed, your skin feels so even and ready for foundation application. The foundation glides on my face, creating an even base for any other steps. If you would like to read a more in depth review on this primer, I did post a product review on my blog that I will link here!
6. Mac lipstick in “Cosmo”
Mac lipsticks have definitely become a staple in everyone’s makeup collection. They are so creamy and pigmented and there are endless colour choices. It is no secret that Kylie Jenner’s makeup has become one of the biggest trends this year with her over lined lips and perfect mauve lip colour. Mac’s “Cosmo” is one of my favourite shades from Mac. It is a warm toned berry shade that has the perfect mauve/taupe undertone. I purchased this lipstick at my local Mac store for $19.00 CAN. I love this lipstick paired with any eye look because it can really play up any look. It is a tad more intense than the “average” Kylie lip, but I love the warmth it provides to the face without being too red or too brown- it is the perfect inbetween shade!
7. Ardell lashes in “120 Demi Whispies”
These false lashes are one of my all time favourites! Ardell lashes in the style “Demi Whispies” are one of Ardell’s most popular pair and I am not surprised! These lashes look so flirty and full when applied and really open up the eyes. I find that I can wear these with any look which is a huge bonus because you don’t have to splurge on tons and tons of lashes. I picked these lashes up at Ulta in a pack of two for $4.99 US. For two pairs of lashes it is quite the steal! Another thing I love about these is that the band is very thin so they don’t weigh down the eyes and cause irritation. Also, cutting these in half and just wearing them on the outter portion of the eye looks so natural and flirtatious. I think I will always love these lashes and they honestly look beautiful on any eyeshape! These are so wearable and for five bucks, it can’t get any better than that!
