Winged eyeliner is an artistry that every makeup enthusiast has struggled to achieve. You must create that flawless, smooth line, finishing off with a fierce flick, while achieving the perfect amount of thickness, and of course…the most essential and agonizing process… both eyes must match. Whether you are using a gel, a liquid, an eye kohl a stencil or even a SHARPIE, winged liner can be quite the challenge.
Luckily, now that you are here, you may have just found yourself a killer solution to all of your winged liner related issues. In this post, I will be sharing with you one of my ultimate beauty hacks to ensure beautiful winged liner, every time (and I promise that you will save a fortune on eye makeup remover).
I created a tutorial for my YouTube channel, demonstrating this technique, so be sure to check that out to see all of the products in action!
You will need:
- Neutral, light brown matte eyeshadow
- Medium, warm brown matte eyeshadow
- Black matte eyeshadow
- Scotch tape (yes…you read that correctly)
- Whatever eyeshadow brushes that you have in your collection!
Take a piece of scotch tape about an inch long and apply it to the corner of your lower lash line while extending it up towards your temple. By applying tape, this is creating a guideline for a sharp, crisp and fierce cat eye! I always compare this to the concept of lane bumpers at a bowling alley; even though you may not have the greatest placement, this will ensure a win every time!
Taking a tapered blending brush, apply a neutral, light brown matte eyeshadow across your entire lash and up along the side of the tape. You will stop your shadow depending on the desired length of your wing.
Following the same act, with a more defined, pencil brush, apply a medium, warm brown matte eyeshadow directly on top of the previous shade.
Pro Tip: be sure to blend with a fluffy blending brush in between steps to ensure a soft, clean gradient!!
With a teeny-tiny eye detail brush, take a black, matte eyeshadow and run this tightly along your lash line and up along the side of the tape. This step is the most crucial when ensuring your “liner” is perfect, so take your time! Once you have the base of this applied, you can deepen up the wing to your liking with more black eyeshadow.
Remove the tape and reveal your masterpiece! Apply mascara with the option of false lashes and you are golden!
